Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some questions/answers that we are frequently asked. If you have additional questions that aren't covered here, please feel free to give us a call at Paisano Mobile Animal Clinic.

1. What are the Hospital hours?

    Our hours are currently
Monday to Thursday from 9:00am to 4:30 pm.  The clinic is closed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

2. Do I need to have an appointment?

Yes, patients are seen by appointment.

3. What forms of payment do you accept?

Cash, Check, Mastercard, Discover, and Visa

4. Can I make payments?

Payment is required at the time of service.  You may elect to make payments in advance of services, similar to a savings account.  We will be happy to credit payments toward your pet's care to make it easier to budget; an example of this might be paying $20 per month for your puppy's or kitten's spay or neuter surgery.

5. At what age can I have my pet spayed or neutered?

Spaying or neutering can be done at approximately 6 months of age. Your pet is given an exam prior to surgery to help ensure that your pet is healthy enough to undergo the surgical procedure. Current vaccinations are required by the time of surgery. Also, a pre-anesthetic blood screen is recommended prior to undergoing anesthesia and surgery.

6.  What is the pre-anesthetic blood screening?

This is a blood test that is run in the clinic prior to surgery. It tests the organ functions, blood counts and clotting function of your pet. The pre-anesthetic blood screening is done to assure safety during surgery and the ability to heal following surgery.

7. How long do the sutures stay in after my pet's surgery?

Many procedures utilize absorbable sutures, which will be strong enough for a long enough period of time to ensure healing is adequate before they dissolve.  Procedures involving non-absorbable sutures require removal 10 days following the surgery.

8.  Is it a good idea to let my pet have at least one litter?

No; this is an old wive's tale.  There are plenty of advantages, and no disadvantages, to spaying your female pet before she has her first heat cycle; these include decreasing the chances of mammary tumors, cystic ovaries and uterine infections later in life,  and also to prevent the surplus of unwanted puppies and kittensNeutering male pets before sexual maturity ensures that they won't be nearly as interested
in roaming the neighborhood or fighting with other males, decreases the incidence of prostate cancer later in life, and helps prevent spraying and marking their territory (inside the house as well as outside) with foul-smelling urine.

9.  Do you board pets?

We are offering boarding services for our patients on a limited basis.  Please call for more information.

10.  What are your hospital kennels like?

Our kennels are all indoor. Bedding is provided, but you are always welcome to bring your own, too.  We prefer that you bring your own food, so that we don't upset the g.i. tract by a sudden change in diet.  We do have an outside dog run with fenced off kennels to let the dogs out to use the bathroom, and to get some exercise and fresh air.

11.  What does "Paisano" mean?

Paisano is Spanish for roadrunner.  When Dr. Thompson started the mobile clinic, she thought a roadrunner would be an appropriate symbol for her clinic.
